Licensed Music Recordings on Nationalized Czechoslovak Market

Diploma thesis Licensed Music Recordings on Nationalized Czechoslovak Market deals with a segment of music industry executed by Supraphon and Opus labels. Between 1946-1989, most foreign recordings on the nationalized music market were licensed, then multiplied and offered to listeners via the state distribution network, stores and also as Grammophone Club editions subscription. Up to now, the research only discussed licensed recordings in the context of long play records and a struggle for emancipation of rock music in socialist Czechoslovakia. This diploma thesis adds the area of classical and contemporary music and other not yet discussed genres and sound media. Collected data from approximately 700 records and cassettes are interpreted by the means of quantitative research - the provenience of licences is investigated and compared as well as the development of genre range in time, sound media preferences and the number of licensed releases published by Supraphon and Opus. Both the chapter which covers historical and aesthetic questions of licensing and the chapter which explains the technical vocabulary provide necessary context to the research. Reception and rating of Czech video games in gaming magazine Level

This bachelor thesis is devoted to the reception of video games developed by studios residing in the Czech republic through reviews published in the video game magazine Level since the foundation of the magazine in the 1995. Theoretical part describes basic contexts of the development of gaming journalism with the emphasis on the Czech scene, briefly explains the foundation and the history of Level and provides complete list of all reviews of Czech video games in up to now published issues. Research part examines the aspects of 10 picked individual texts, emphasizing the changes during years. Thesis aims to find out how and to what extent can reception of individual games be influenced by the fact, that they were developed in the Czech Republic, and how these aspects of reception change from the 1995 to these days. Choice of examined texts reflects the intention to study changes over the time and individual reviews are divided by approximately stable intervals.

Content and publishing concept of free daily nexspaper:comparison Czech Republic and France

My thesis deals with free newspaper on the Czech and French market. I divided my work into three main parts. The first is a descriptive one: I present a list of free daily newspaper on both national markets with the stress on their capital cities and I give a brief characteristic of each title. I talk briefly about the company Metro International that was at the origin of the free newspaper concept and I also spend some time talking about the French press market that has many specifics in terms of journalistic traditions and market situation. In the second part of my thesis I concentrate on the publishing concept of a free newspaper. I write about advertizing, ownership and distribution channels, as well as target groups and editorial staff. Finally in the third main part of my work I discussed the content characteristics of free dailies. I used the results from my quantitative analysis as a source of information. I came to the conclusion that free newspaper use original texts as well as press agencies sources to fill their pages, that are colorful, highly structuralized and inspired by audiovisual media. The splendors and miseries of DTP: desktop publishing and common practice of Czech publishing houses

Diploma thesis Te splendors and miseries of DTP: desktop publishing and common practice of Czech publishing houses tries to map the current technical and personnel aspect of the DTP departments within Czech publishing houses. It uses a quantitative method of questionnaire survey. In the practical part of the research, it managed to obtain data from nine of the ten selected publishers. It was chosen on the basis of their readership with the help of data from the Union of Publishers. Undoubtedly, the main contribution of this thesis is the topic itself - text focuses on a group of media professionals, who are crucial for proper functioning of the print media, although it is constantly overlooked by academia. Tis diploma thesis does not bring any revolutionary knowledge about the feld of print media in the Czech Republic, although with the obtained data it is possible to at least partially analyze jobs and style of work of media professionals in DTP departments. Te work is a small quantitative contribution to the academic discussion, which unfortunately is not currently taking place, although it should.
